SFPD Shout
February 27th, 2012 Posted in UncategorizedThat’s Officer Kelvin Tso. I ran into him last week shooting in the Mission last week with a couple friends. He’s been on the force for 23 years, is a heck of a nice guy, and is also a poet. I’ve probably photographed close to 100 SFPD officers and it’s always a pleasure!

I always like your photographs. I like this one particularly. Your work has inspired me to be bolder and approach people, something that does not come naturally to me.

These photos are amazing. I use my phone app(hipstamatic) for almost all of my photos. If you wouldn’t mind sharing, which film and lens did you use to create these images? I love black and whites and I’ve tried different combos but haven’t seen anything this beautiful. You really know how to capture real life.

Thanks Jeremy! Once you start approaching people you’ll see how easy it is. I find being honest and straight up works great. Sometimes people will ask why. I just say I’m documenting the city (San Francisco) or that it’s for my blog. Just about everyone says yes on being photographed. I think that speaks to the idea that people will always try and help another person – even a photographer looking for a photo!

Thanks for the nice words, Ashlie!
For film I’m using Black Keys Super Grain, and the John S lens. That combination seems to love lots of light, even harsh light that I wouldn’t dream of shooting in with my dSLR!
