Street portrait: Charlene
September 9th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized

Yesterday when shooting around Stockton Street with a friend during the lunch hour, I came upon Charlene who looked like she was taking a break. She was a good sport and said sure when asked if I could take her portrait. Charlene’s a nail technician at a local salon spa. She’s been a nail tech for eight years and enjoys indoor rock climbing as a hobby. When asked what is it about her job she likes, she said it was working with people and helping them bring out their beauty.

I hear people talk about how good photographers never have to share information beyond what is visually available, but the story behind the face brings home that you are not just taking photos of people, you are capturing peoples lives.
Really like the lighting on her face. she is so urbane, but then again, she is a New Yorker. Great image.
