Lisa, in the Mission
March 10th, 2010 Posted in UncategorizedThat’s Lisa up there… Today I went shooting in the Mission with photographer-friend Athea. When walking down Mission between 16th and 17th I found this really great looking area all graffitied up next to a store. Looked around for an interesting person and within 15 seconds Lisa walked by. Really loved her fashion sense and asked her for a portrait. She said yes, I took a few snaps, and gave her my card.

I like the order in which the recipe played out: first the plate, and then the meal –with all due respect to Lisa. Man, love the crude, urban feel of that background. The light is spot on too.
I’ve never been to San Francisco, but people like her really make the town something I would love to visit; she’s so attractively colorful.

I agree-the lighting is great.
I had a conversation last night with my friend who thought it’s weird when people allow themselves to be photographed by random strangers. I don’t get it either, but I’m thankful that people are ok with it!

Me too, Jen…
I used to be amazed that so many people agree. That caused me to think about how we’ve (certainly me) been taught to be suspicious and accustomed to keeping walls around ourselves. And therefore assume everyone else is the same. What I’ve learned, I think, is that when people are approached honestly and with a smile, it’s a basic human trait for others to try and be helpful if the imposition isn’t too great. That’s pretty neat and just my theory… Thanks for bringing that up; I’m going to start asking people why they agree after I take their picture. The answers might be interesting.
Hey thanks, Luis. Your comments rich with analogies and metaphors are always great!

hi brad!! you took our picture today in the graffity aisle in Mission.. and loved the way you aproached us…it is weird to get a picture taken by a stranger, without being asked for money afterwards, that I was a bit surprised it happened that way… maybe we are just used to be harrased by people asking for something in return..
I really like your job, the light is beautiful in the pictures and I hope you enjoyed taken our picture as much as we enjoyed the surprise!
I hope i did not offended you when I asked if it was for free… he thing is, it is never free!
thanks again for noticing the unusual!

Hey Camille! That was fun bumping into you and Juan yesterday – thanks for being good sports letting me take some photos. And no, I wasn’t offended at all – no worries on that.
I’ll email you some photos after I process them.
Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy your stay here!
